The Senior RV Service Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and longevity of recreational vehicles (RVs). Leveraging advanced technical skills and extensive experience, the senior technician diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs a diverse range of RV systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, propane, and appliances. In addition to performing routine maintenance tasks,the senior technician leads by example, providing mentorship and guidance to junior technicians. Exceptional customer service skills are essential as the senior technician interacts directly with RV owners, explaining repair options, providing cost estimates, and ensuring customer satisfaction. With a commitment to quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards, the senior RV service technician contributes to the efficient operation of the service department and fosters positive relationships with customers. This role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and continuous learning to stay abreast of evolving RV technologies and industry best practices.

Responsibilities: 

  • Diagnose and Repair: Conduct thorough inspections to identify issues in RVs. Perform repairs and replacements of components such as HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, and more.

    • Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, batteries, generators, inverters, and lighting fixtures, ensuring proper functioning and safety compliance.

    • Plumbing Systems: Inspect, repair, and replace plumbing components such as faucets, toilets, sinks, water pumps, hoses, and tanks to address leaks, blockages, or malfunctioning systems.

    • Appliance Maintenance: Service and repair appliances commonly found in RVs, including refrigerators, stoves, ovens, microwaves, and water heaters, to ensure they operate efficiently and reliably.

    • Slide-Out Systems: Diagnose and repair slide-out mechanisms, including motors, tracks, seals, and controls, to ensure smooth operation and prevent issues with extending and retracting slide-outs.

    • Awning Repair: Repair or replace awnings and awning mechanisms, including fabric, arms, springs, and motors, to restore functionality and protect against sun and weather damage.

    • HVAC Systems: Service and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductwork, to provide comfortable indoor environments in all seasons.

  • Accessory Installation: Install aftermarket accessories and upgrades requested by customers, such as solar panels, satellite systems, towing equipment, leveling systems, and security features, according to manufacturer specifications.

  • Maintenance Services: Perform routine maintenance tasks and other preventive maintenance to keep RVs running smoothly and prevent future issues.

  • Troubleshooting: Investigate and troubleshoot problems reported by customers, utilizing diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to pinpoint issues accurately and propose effective solutions.

  • Warranty Repairs: Perform warranty repairs on RVs according to manufacturer guidelines and specifications, documenting repairs accurately and submitting warranty claims promptly to ensure reimbursement for covered services.

  • Pre-Delivery Inspections: Conduct pre-delivery inspections on new RVs to verify proper assembly, functionality, and safety compliance before customer delivery, addressing any defects or deficiencies identified during the inspection process.

  • Customer Demonstrations: Provide thorough demonstrations to customers on how to operate and maintain their RVs, including explanations of all features, systems, and controls.

  • Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough safety inspections of RVs to identify potential hazards or non-compliance with industry standards. Take necessary measures to address safety concerns and ensure the overall safety of RV occupants.

  • Customer Interaction: Interact professionally and courteously with RV owners, providing clear explanations of repair options, cost estimates, and timelines. Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively to ensure satisfaction.

  • Mentorship and Leadership: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior technicians, sharing knowledge and expertise to facilitate their professional development and enhance overall team performance.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail in all repairs and maintenance activities. Ensure that all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.

  • Documentation: Keep detailed records of work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and customer interactions. Maintain organized documentation to facilitate efficient workflow and ensure accurate billing and invoicing.

  • Continuing Education: Stay updated on the latest RV technologies, repair techniques, and industry trends through ongoing training, seminars, and professional development opportunities. Apply new knowledge and skills to enhance service offerings and improve customer satisfaction.

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other members of the service department and dealership staff to optimize workflow, share best practices, and achieve common goals. Communicate openly and constructively to address challenges and promote a positive work environment.

  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines at all times to minimize risks of accidents or injuries. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing RV repair and maintenance activities.

  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through exceptional service, professionalism, and integrity. Foster customer loyalty and trust to promote repeat business and referrals.

  • Problem-Solving: Exercise strong problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges and unique situations encountered during RV repairs and maintenance. Approach problems creatively and systematically to identify effective solutions.

  • Work Environment: Uphold a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in RV repair or a related field preferred.

  • Proven experience as an RV service technician, with a strong background in diagnosing and repairing various RV systems.

  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues efficiently.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.

  • Outstanding customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally.

  • Leadership abilities and experience mentoring junior technicians.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Certification from the RV Industry Association (RVIA) or other relevant credentials preferred
