 A Buyer is responsible for sourcing and choosing products for sale in retail businesses

2. Their duties include researching their target market, analyzing sales data and building relationships with suppliers

3. Buyers often have significant industry experience that enable them to identify gaps in the market and predict buying trends

4. A Buyer is also known as a Senior Buyer, Merchandiser or Purchasing Agent

Buyer responsibilities include:

  • Research, select and purchase quality products and materials.
  • Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing.
  • Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
  • Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
  • Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
