EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION:

Vocational training or certification in maintenance, mechanical, or related field preferred.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Must have at least 3 years’ experience in preventative maintenance of housekeeping floor care machines equipment in VA Medical Center and/or facilities of comparable size, scope, and complexity.

• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

• Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and procedures.

• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on all housekeeping equipment according to established guidelines and schedules.

• Provide an annual comprehensive preventive maintenance service for all power equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

• Perform diagnostic tests, troubleshooting, and repairs on housekeeping equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.

• Inspect, clean, and lubricate equipment components as necessary to maintain peak performance and extend operational lifespan.

• Identify and replace worn or faulty parts and components using appropriate tools and materials.

• Document all maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and replacements, accurately and thoroughly.

• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.

• Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and department staff to coordinate maintenance schedules and optimize equipment uptime.

• Maintain inventory of parts, materials, and supplies necessary for maintenance activities and coordinate procurement as needed.

• Provide timely and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and contractors regarding maintenance tasks, issues, and recommendations.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines governing housekeeping equipment maintenance and operation.
