Role and Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for assisting in the underwriting of health benefit plan data and assessing frequency of claims to produce accurate proposals. This individual will use established underwriting criteria and guidelines to determine proper rating for our employer groups and prospects. The position will work closely with The Difference Card sales consultants and recommend alternative pricing options and plan design changes based on group specific utilization and claims data and trends.
· Underwrite new business proposals using Company rating tool
· Produce implementation materials and supporting exhibits
· Develop summary comparisons of quotes with similar characteristics
· Develop reports for monthly carrier reporting
· Assist in underwriting renewal business using manual and experience rating. This volume will be particularly heavy in April/May and October/November/December
· Produce bi-weekly reports on quote stats
· Report and track renewal rate actions, including comparison to emerging and actual experience
· Other duties as required
Position Metrics
Education and Licensure Requirements
· 2+ years of experience in healthcare underwriting for any variety of products: PPO, HMO, self-funded, ASO or 2+ years claims experience at The Difference Card
· Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
· Attention to detail is a must
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Ability to utilize underwriting criteria and guidelines to provide proper rates and proposals
· Strong proficiency in MS Excel, including building and management of databases
· Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Finance, Business, Statistics, Healthcare Administration, or related degree, or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree
Skills and Experience
