Job Overview:

As the GIS Specialist you will be responsible for maintaining the GIS database of all electrical assets, and facilitating its integration with Accounting, Billing, Outage, Engineering, and iOS mapping software. The role also involves map creation, quality control of work orders, geometric flow analysis, and management of non-spatial databases. You will report directly to the manager of IT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of a wide variety of point and line data such as transformers, poles, overhead/ underground span, fuses, meters, and more.
  • Management of overnight export of GIS data to; Accounting, Billing, Engineering, Outage Management, and collaboration with those departments to fine tune end results.
  • Integration of new spatial data, using staking GIS layers created by staking department, and working with stakers to understand what infrastructure is going in.
  • Analysis of databases GIS exports data to for troubleshooting problems end users see in data.
  • Management of iOS mapping software, and creation of electronic live map ‘inspections’ for field data collection.

Key Skills:

  • Experience managing a variety of point and line GIS vector data.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, along with using Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries, and perform table joins in SQL and/or in GIS.
  • Experience working with overnight exports of GIS data to different end user databases and troubleshooting those outputs.
  • Field collection of GIS data, using iOS, Trimble, or other GPS field collection software.
  • Ability to work with end users of GIS data from a variety of fields with a variety of needs.
  • Preferred to have experience using NISC software, or a demonstrable ability to learn the software used by end users of GIS data output.
