Job DescriptionJob Description

The Lead Substance Use Disorder Counselor (LSUDC) is a critical role as a member of the Safety Net program and larger Behavioral Health Department. This role splits time between direct client care and supporting the Behavioral Health Services Manager in meeting county, DHCS, and Drug Medi-Cal standards and supervision of program staff. The LSUDC provides critical alcohol and other drug assessment and referral services to clients referred to the Safety Net Program in a manner that reflect the agency's mission and values. Through individual and group counseling, the SUDC assists clients in mobilizing their resources so they can participate in the exploration of treatment challenges and its ramifications. This individual will consider clients’ attitudes and feelings and develop solutions to support informed decision making. The role requires strong interpersonal communication and engagement skills, administrative capacities, and a thorough understanding of alcohol and drug treatment options.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience in drug and alcohol counseling
  • Have experience as a manager or director in similar roles.
  • Must be either certified by California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE), California Association of Drinking Driver Treatment Programs (CADTP), or California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) or be fully licensed in the state of California by the Board of Behavioral Sciences as a LPCC, LMFT, or LCSW.
  • Must have strong group, individual, documentation, and administrative, and supervisory skills.
