Machinist

Select-Arc, Inc. has an opportunity for a journeyman machinist.  This role supports Select Arc’s Quality, R&D, and manufacturing teams. The primary tasks  involve machining test samples for the metallurgical laboratory.  Secondary responsibilities include machining components for custom welding jigs or fixtures and repairing or fabricating components used in Select Arc’s wire drawing equipment.

 

This position is based in our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled, manufacturing facility located in Troy, OH. This position is planned to work a swing shift schedule.  Core hours are 10am – 6pm.    Overtime will be scheduled according to the workload in the shop.

 

Skills / Qualifications

This role involves operating various heavy machinery, such as a CNC lathe, manual and CNC vertical mills, bandsaws, waterjet cutting system, and surface grinder. Machinists will be expected to operate other equipment such as hand tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists and/or shop cranes as needed to complete tasks. Training and certification will be provided for these tools, as required.  The job’s general responsibilities include:

 

·         Operate manual mills and CNC machines according to established programs and procedures.

o   Familiarity HAAS CNC equipment and expertise with G-Code a plus.

·         Reading and interpreting blueprints/drawings/sketches to fabricate parts and assemblies.

o   Familiarity with welding industry codes and/or machining test samples is a plus.

o   Experience with CAD/CAM software also a plus.

·         Performing quality checks on finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications. 

·         Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

·         Able to work independently and produce consistent output after an initial training period.

·         Highly organized with good time management skills. Able to handle multiple projects.

·         Must be able to perform frequent lifting of up to 50lbs.

 

Responsibilities

·         Machine samples from standard weld test plates.  Maintain the highest standard for quality.

·         Plan and execute machining tasks for maximum efficiency.

·         Maintains inventory of tooling and  supplies.  Communicate in a timely manner when supplies are needed.

·         Perform preventative maintenance on schedule and make repairs when necessary.

·         Maintain a clean and orderly work area suitable for occasional customer tours.

·         Work in a safe manner and follow established procedures for personnel safety.
