Job Overview: The Trucking Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of our trucking fleet. This role involves scheduling, route planning, and ensuring that shipments are delivered on time while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
General dispatching duties (i.e. printing shipping BOL’s and load sheets). Must be capable of answering phone calls and emails to assist customer questions with the use of problem-solving skills and multi-tasking abilities. We are looking for someone with a Trucking background and/or a background in Trucking Dispatch. Experience with TMS dispatching software. Must know Excel, Office, and Outlook.
Key Responsibilities:
- Route Planning: Develop and optimize routes to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods. Monitor weather conditions, traffic reports, and road closures to adjust routes as needed.
- Scheduling: Create and manage delivery schedules for drivers, ensuring that all assignments are covered and shifts are adequately staffed.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between drivers, customers, and the company. Provide clear instructions and updates to drivers and address any issues or concerns promptly.
- Tracking and Monitoring: Utilize tracking systems and software to monitor the location and status of shipments. Ensure that drivers adhere to schedules and comply with safety regulations.
- Problem-Solving: Address and resolve any operational issues, such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, or logistical challenges. Work to find solutions that minimize disruptions to the supply chain.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities, including driver logs, shipment details, and maintenance reports. Prepare and submit reports as required by management.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to clients by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring that their needs are met. Foster strong relationships with customers and address any service concerns effectively.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in dispatching, logistics, or a related field. Experience in the trucking or transportation industry is preferred.
- Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Proficiency in dispatch software and GPS tracking systems. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business, or a related field is a plus.
- Other: Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
