Job DescriptionJob Description

The Planner II will provide basic professional planning services in support of a variety of CCRPC programs including land use and comprehensive planning, information, transportation, ordinance administration, zoning, community development, and others.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine appropriate methods of data collection and analysis; adapt or invent novel methods of data collection or analysis if required.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental, demographic, economic, and other data with respect to geographic and temporal context, regional and national trends using established methods, policies, and regulations.
  • Develop and carry out strategies to promote public participation with diverse populations.
  • Keep abreast of new data, sources, methods, and techniques.
  • Identify data limitations and judge significance with respect to accuracy, currency, etc.
  • Make informed decisions to move projects forward within larger frameworks of established processes, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Identify when to modify established methods or develop alternative approaches to complex questions or unexpected changes based on literature, emerging research, and other standard means.
  • Disseminate the results of work to technical and administrative staff, elected officials, and the public by means of oral presentations, written documents, supporting graphics, statistics, and maps.
  • Determine the overall organization and thrust of reports.
  • Maintain appropriate records of work in a form that can be readily accessed.
  • Independently coordinate work with staff and clients under direction.
  • Correspond with various parties on behalf of CCRPC with respect to work assignments.
  • Give clear and timely direction and support to interns and clerical staff when necessary.
  • Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and quality of information and work products provided by CCRPC; complete projects on time and within project budgets.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with available sources of demographic, economic, fiscal, social and environmental data.
  • Knowledge of basic demographic, economic and spatial analyses, statistics, and sampling and survey design.
  • Familiarity with simple demographic, economic and fiscal models.
  • Ability to organize material logically and approach questions analytically.
  • Ability to effectively present information clearly in tabular, graphic and written formats.
  • Ability to present information to varied audiences in graphic and electronic media and in oral presentations.
  • Bachelors degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, sociology, economics or other field relevant to particular duties.
  • One to three years related professional experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spread sheet and database software products.
  • Familiarity with GIS software.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information clearly and effectively in written and graphic formats.
  • Knowledge of statistical software, specialized modeling products, graphic design or web page design is desirable.

Summary

Hours:  8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., (37.5 hours per week) Flexibility is necessary to meet the needs of the program.

Location:  1776 E. Washington Street, Urbana, IL  61802 and Virtual Office (Hybrid work environment)

Status:  Full-Time

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Salary Range:  $32.10 - $40.13 (DOQ)
