Job Summary:

The CNC Set-Up Machinist will produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; and keeping records.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters’ interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerance (GD&T).

·  Programs lathes/mills by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool data, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

·  Sets-up lathes/mills safely by installing and adjusting chuck jaws, tools, attachments, collets, stops, bar pullers, and bar feeders.

·  Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.

·  Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.

·  Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

·  Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

·  Starts, stops, and sets up lathe machines in a safe manner.

·  Maintains equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for maintenance.

·  Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

·  Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.

·  Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

·  Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value.

·  Maintains 6S (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, safety) standards in all work stations.

·  Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills:

·         Knowledge of G & M codes or Mazatrol.

·         Knowledge of blueprint reading.

·         Intermediate math skills (ex. Algebra, trigonometry).

·         Basic computer skills.

·         Mechanical inclination.

·         Organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

·         Interpersonal and written communication.

·         Persistence when faced with problems.

Abilities:

·         Set up and operate a CNC machine.

·         Function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

·         Work well with others on a team.

·         Solve problems quickly and efficiently.

·         Mentor others.

·         Lead by example.

·         Run multi-axis lathe.

·         Work with minimal supervision.

·         Provide own tools (ex. Calipers).

·         Willingness to have performance measured daily.

Required Education and Experience:

Experience operating and setting up multi-axis CNC lathes.

Preferred Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience with Mazak lathes.
