Job Summary:

The Construction Crew Site Assistant position is responsible for keeping active job sites running smoothly by providing support in all areas of construction. This position must be a team player and have a great attitude and willingness to jump in and assist Carpenters at all times. Construction Crew Site Assistant staff are not expected to have previous experience in construction. This position is expected to have a willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors. This position provides on-the-job training to build a career in construction.

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for assisting Carpenters by holding and securing lumber used in the build process; ensures lumber is level or plumb during installation.

  • Assists with building forms for pouring concrete.

  • Prepares work area by transporting needed tools and equipment from the storage facility.

  • Loads and unloads building materials to be used on construction projects.

  • Builds and disassembles scaffolding, bracing, and other temporary structures used on construction sites.

  • Removes debris and possible hazards to keep construction sites clean and safe.

  • Dig trenches and holes needed in construction projects.

  • Works safely and efficiently per Company standards.

  • Keep machines serviced.

  • Assists other construction crew members as directed.

  • Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.

Skills:

  • Willingness to learn company software such as Buildertend, Slack, and other industry programs.

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and carpenters.

  • An eager approach to learn carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.

  • Ability to perform basic math.

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively.

  • Ability to read a tape measure or the willingness to learn.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired.

  • Previous experience is optional.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • On-the-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mechanical skills to use equipment and basic hand tools, regularly.

  • Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather.

  • Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.

  • Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.

  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
