Job DescriptionJob Description

Summary of Position: Perform technical plan review for residential, commercial, and industrial construction in accordance with state and local city building codes, regulations and ordinances.

Essential functions include:

  • Review plans and related documents of SFD, Duplex, ADU and TI developments to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations & ordinances for building permits.
  • Provide written concise and specific review comments.
  • Interpret and apply building codes, ordinances, and guidelines.
  • Coordinates plan checking activities with city personnel, applicants, and client agencies
  • Research engineering problems, analyze various approaches & recommend solutions
  • Resolve conflicts effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform other plan check related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering w/ emphasis on Structural Design
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a plan check engineer
  • A valid professional engineer (PE) license issued by the State of California - Preferred
  • A valid building plan examiner certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) Preferred or able to obtain within 6 months.
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong verbal and written skills to communicate w/ architects, engineers & applicants
  • Willing to travel
