The CAD Technician is responsible to produce and revise drawing files as required for all projects that are assigned to him/her by the Director of Engineering– CEC/Project Manager. The CAD Technician will be responsible to create engineering drawings using CAD software, make corrections to drawings, work closely with the project engineer to ensure adherence to standards, reproduce drawings, and develop and implement CAD tools and standards. This position may require some traveling to project sites to assist the project engineer with field investigations, drawing verification. The CAD Technician is expected to conduct multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibility Areas:

 

The CAD Technician is responsible to create, produce and revise electronic drawing files as required for all projects that are assigned to him/her by the Director of Engineering and/or Project Manager.

 

The CAD Technician will be responsible to create engineering drawings using AutoCAD & REVIT software, make corrections to drawings, work closely with the project engineer and/or designer to ensure adherence to standards, generate reproducible drawings, and develop and implement CAD tools and drafting standards. The expectations include:

 

1. Obtain, diagnose and respond to ongoing internal and external customer needs which will enhance the quality of our customer service, and provide our Clients with the most effective and competent engineering design / project management services.

 

2. Initiate, complete and deliver all related project documentation - drawings, specifications, reports and shop drawings - as necessary to achieve the established project goals.

 

This position may require some traveling to project sites to assist the Project Engineer with field investigations for the purpose of drawing verification. The CAD Technician is expected to function with multiple projects simultaneously.

 

It is anticipated that the CAD Technician duties will increase to include design and project management activities.

  • Understanding of the consulting engineering business, and the building construction industry.

 

  • Become conversant with other building trades documents, including architectural, structural, civil and facility controls.

 

  • Develop skills in regard to production activities related to project document preparation, coordination, quality control and presentation.

 

  • Become proficient in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Teams, Adobe, AutoCAD and REVIT. Gain experience in MS PowerPoint and MS Project.

 

  • Develop basic design skills including calculations, preparation of Com-Check evaluations, shop drawing review and document coordination.

 

 

2. Problem Solving Expertise to be Developed:

 

  • Identifying and understanding the project goals, and labor budget.

 

  • Selecting and implementing alternative solutions strategies.

 

  • Management of resources to support production goals.

 

  • Development of contingencies and reducing performance deviations.

 

 

3. Planning Competency to be Developed:

 

  • Managing time to accomplish production goals
  • Identifying obstacles to achieving key objectives
  • Understanding resource management details
  • Provide deliverables to meet the project schedule
  • Document preparation

 

4. Communications Skills to be Developed:

 

  • Develop oral and written communications skills required to effectively coordinate work with the CEC Team Members.
  • Develop oral and written communications skills required to effectively work with Clients
  • Develop effective oral and written communications skills to interact with Vendors, Contractors, Inspectors and Sub-Consultants.

The following measurement methods are intended to provide a sound basis for assessing the performance of the individual in this position with respect to those responsibilities noted previously.

 

  • Achieve mutually agreed-upon project goals established by the Client and the CEC Team. This effort includes project labor budget and production schedule.

 

  • Monitor and maintain project expenses to achieve financial goals on every project.

 

  • Achieve technical goals as established by the Project Manager or Director of Engineering.

 

  • Maintaining the professional appearance of the production documents, including drawing clarity, document presentation and quality, and adherence to the company drafting standards.

 

  • Internal and external customer feedback.
