Youth Partnership Coach

To promote the social-emotional growth, self-advocacy and leadership skills of youth and young adults with behavioral, mental, developmental, emotional and substance abuse needs, the Youth Coach facilitates programming for young people ages 14-21. The Youth Coach assists youth to: strengthen their support networks, increase understanding of their strengths and needs and enhance their ability to successfully navigate youth-serving systems.
Duties:
SUPPORT:
Support the growth of youth/young adults involved and not involved with the CMO by ensuring fidelity to YP model (Support, Education and Advocacy) including documentation of contacts in the FSOEC system record.
Coordinate activités based on youths' needs and requests to increase social network amongst peers and develop critical skills necessary to lead their own services and planning process.
Demonstrate empathy and compassion through active listening of youths' needs.
Participate in Child-Family Teams and other meetings as requested to ensure youth has support through process.
EDUCATION:
Provide information and resources to youth related to systems navigation and service options.
Enhance life-long skills such as communication and resolving conflict.
Educate service providers on the needs of youth and strategies to increase youth leadership and culturally competent care, as needed.
Partner with Peer Support Coordinator and Outreach Specialist to coordinate joint activities.
Engage the service provider community, families and youth in learning about Youth Partnership and other FSO services and supports including Outreach and Peer Support.
ADVOCACY:
Challenge stigma by partnering with System Partners and other community members to promote youth leadership.
Model advocacy skills for youth wishing the FSO in addition to Child-Family Team and other meetings as needed.
Develop advocacy skills of youth by providing resources and preparation for meetings.
Develop youth leadership team to ensure that Youth Partnership is youth guided.
Skills:
Personal experience as a child/youth/young adult with needs preferred.
Demonstrated success navigating a child-servicing systems.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills
Prior experience working with youth and young adults
Must have valid NJ Driver's License with excellent driving record
Must have reliable transportation.
HOURS:
Evenings, some weekends needed - 10 Hrs per week (Hourly employee)
