Position Summary

The Test Technician supports the engine calibration and test engineering teams to develop and execute tests, install, and operate test articles and equipment, and collect data associated with engine calibration development, engine validation testing, and component testing. This would include instrumenting, installing, operating, and testing engines and vehicles in laboratory and in-vehicle or equipment, and preparing data for engineering teams. In addition, the individual will perform first level data quality review and reduce the data using established tools into charts and graphs to effectively communicate results to internal customers.

The Test Technician will assist in the standardization of testing methods and establish best practices. This will include developing guidelines to document department test procedures. The Test Technician will look to streamline the test set up and overall workflow through the lab by standardizing test fixturing. The individual in this position will maintain the testing equipment and perform schedule maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the setup and instrumentation of the test article.
  • Leads in the fabrication of test fixtures, mounting and adapting hardware, and fluid systems for installation of equipment and test articles.
  • Leads the installation of test articles (engines and components) onto test stands.
  • Leads the installation, maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Leads the installation and maintenance of facility equipment.
  • Assist in the diagnosis and troubleshooting engine, electrical, and test cell instrumentation during test programs.
  • Submit timely and concise test reports including test set up, testing methods and data summary.
  • Develop or make recommendations on test procedures and specifications.

Job Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree in automotive technology or a related field. Applicants without a technical degree may be considered if exhibiting specific relevant work experience. ASE or other similar certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of directly relevant work experience in engine development and/or automotive testing.
  • Good understanding of internal combustion theory and mechanics.
  • Familiarity and experience with electronic control systems and DC electrical systems, capable of reading and interpreting electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Capable of metal fabrication including use of machine tools such as mills and lathes.
  • Experience with mig, tig, and acetylene welding of steel and stainless steel.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
