The Chinese American Service League (CASL) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Culinary Instructor to join our team and lead our Culinary Training Program (CTP). Your Impact:

As the Culinary Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in the Culinary Training Program. Reporting to the Director of Adult Services, you will work closely with the Culinary Support Specialist and the Adult Employment Team to create and develop employment opportunities for our students. Additionally, you will coordinate with the Chef Coordinator and Food Service Supervisor to manage kitchen schedules and procure food for classes.


Key Responsibilities


Instruct and Mentor: Coach, instruct, and counsel CTP students, ensuring they receive top-notch culinary training.


Teach Classes: Deliver engaging culinary training classes and manage schedules for visiting chef instructors.


Collaborate: Work alongside the Chef Coordinator, Culinary Support Specialist, and employment counselors to assess students’ skills, recruit qualified candidates, and evaluate their progress and job readiness.


Event Planning: Assist in organizing special events such as open houses, staff lunches, and bake sales.


Develop Materials: Support the Chef Coordinator in creating instructional materials and writing syllabi for the training program.


Job Placement: Help identify job leads and collaborate with the Job Developer to share opportunities.


Stay Updated: Ensure professional development by keeping up with the latest culinary trends and workplace safety regulations.


Procurement: Assist in purchasing and ordering necessary supplies for the program.


Record Keeping: Partner with the Culinary Specialist to complete required forms and maintain student records.


Community Engagement: Interpret agency policies and services to individuals and the broader community.


Special Projects: Participate in agency fundraising events and other special initiatives.


Data Management: Enter client efforts and case notes into CASL’s Salesforce database as needed.


Must Haves

To thrive in this role, you should have:


Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma and a graduate of a culinary school program, or equivalent B.A. level training.
  • Current Sanitation License.
  • At least five years of professional cooking/teaching experience.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in English
  • Ability to learn and use Salesforce.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to bend and lift at least 15 pounds.
  • Capability to frequently sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Teaching hours between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, 29 hours per week.
  • Free parking
