The Position:

Due to the success of our genomic tests and our product pipeline, Veracyte is hiring an additional team member for our CLIA Cytology Lab. The Histotechnician is responsible for preparing histologic slides from Thyroid FNA sections for microscopy examination and diagnosis by Pathologist. The schedule will be Full Time (Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00am - 5:30pm).

 

• Routine microtomy, cuts and mounts paraffin sections onto microscopic slides.
• Knowledgeable in the process of processing, embedding, and special stains for histologic evaluation.
• Performs routine H & E stain procedures.
• Performs cell blocks using automated equipment.
• Exercises independent judgement in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
• Examines slides and/or blocks to ensure preparations meet laboratory requirements and standards.
• Performs recuts in a timely manner meeting TAT goals.
• Coverslips and routes slides to pathologists.
• Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks and slides.
• Prepares solutions and reagents for H&E staining.
• Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QC/QA monitors.
• Must be able to troubleshoot areas of processing, embedding, cutting, and staining.
• Must be able to troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation.
• Performs and documents scheduled preventative maintenance.
• Understands and follows ALL safety and OSHA guidelines.
• Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State regulations, HIPPAA, Safety and OSHA regulations.
• Communicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care.
• Maintains and supports a service-oriented relationship with customers.
• Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients.
• Strives to maintain a positive work environment.
• Demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully perform as a team member in a constantly changing environment.
• Participates in all continuing education programs required to keep certification current.
• Must have the capability of flexing schedule to accommodate workload to include weekend coverage.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Who You Are:

• Minimum of one year experience as a Histology Technician and competent in the areas of embedding, microtomy, grossing, special stains and immunohistochemistry. 
• Completion of a Histology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NACLS).
• Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in the field of Laboratory Sciences
• Certified or eligible for Board of Certification (BOC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
• Excellent problem solving skills; demonstrated strength in tact and diplomacy with internal and external collaborators
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
• Excellent teamwork and collaborations skills

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
