Job DescriptionJob Description

The Project Planning Manager oversees the team responsible for the development of and revisions to product launch schedules and Stage Gate reporting and approval meetings, ensuring we stay in compliance with Daikin Product Development processes. The incumbent is also responsible for leading efforts to develop and maintain Functional work breakdown structures along with managing the efforts to ensure that these are implemented within the Project Web Application (PWA) server. The Manager is also responsible for the training and development of the Project Planners and providing advice and guidance to the PMO project managers. Develops project management methodology, standards, and practice.

Position Responsibilities may include:

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Project Planning Team
  • Promotes an effective team-oriented atmosphere
  • Proven ability to manage multiple people
  • Trains and mentors new staff
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships throughout the organization
  • Develop and/or implement business processes and procedures
  • Serve as a project adviser to other department Project Managers and team members relating to the Program Management Office (PMO) and Daikin Product Develop Process
  • Ensure that Project Web Access (PWA) is administered appropriately with questions and issues being addressed timely and accurately
  • Manage weekly project planning and tracking to ensure project schedules are reviewed and updated timely
  • Create and effectively coordinate documentation to explain process and/or procedure changes
  • Facilitate solutions to issues around process improvement

  • Perform other job functions related to PMO or process improvement as needed

Nature and Scope:

  • Works within knowledge & provides project leadership
  • Provides direction to team members
  • Promote an effective team-oriented atmosphere and take the initiative to assist in the orientation and development of new Project Planners.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple people and projects in tight timelines.
  • Trains and mentors’ new planners

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Project including 1) creating and maintaining schedules on a daily basis, 2) using predecessors effectively, 3) being able to manipulate the data in a timely manner, and 4) calling out items of attention (date pushes due to scope change or increase in duration).
  • Strong Project management skills
  • Familiar with business processes and procedures, business applications and workflow  
  • Strong working knowledge of project management best practices, tools and software
  • Excellent leadership skills – the ability to develop, delegate, engage, mentor, and conduct performance management
  • High knowledge of MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with project team and business partners
  • High levels of multi-tasking are required and quick adaptability to change
  • Project Focus: Understands, anticipates, and meets business and project needs
  • Consistently deliver on commitments, take initiative, has a bias towards action, take responsibility, show individual accountability, has a sense of urgency, make timely decisions
  • Ability to manage through influence / leverage partnerships
  • Effective verbal and written communication; professional business acumen, ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences, both business and technical
  • Must have good analytical, attention to detail, issue resolution, and relationship-building skills

Experience:

  • 10 + years
  • 5+ years of leadership experience

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or other related field from an accredited university, with over 8 years of experience in managing corporate-wide and/or projects
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification or equivalent experience
