POSITION SUMMARY:

The Athletics & Aquatics Manager is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of a broad range of daily out-of-school time programs for youth during the school year at the Alfred Elson, Jr. Clubhouse. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and evaluation for these programs.

Each of these areas of responsibility is designed to further the organization’s mission of preparing youth for success by inspiring and enabling young people from Pawtucket and surrounding communities, especially those with greatest need, to realize their full potential as healthy, productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

The Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket is offering a one-time sign on bonus of $500 for qualified Full-Time candidates. This bonus will be paid in two installments, $250 at time of hire, $250 after 6-month anniversary, and will be subject to payroll taxes. In the event that you separate from company within six months of your date of hire, you will be responsible for reimbursing the company for the entire signing bonus. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of sports, fitness, recreation, and aquatic programs, as well as special events that support Youth Development Outcomes, and meet State regulations and standards.
  • Hire, train, and manage a team of youth development professionals and volunteers with the required licensing credentials, to effectively deliver sports, fitness, recreation, and aquatics. Leading the process to ensure guidelines are met for necessary staff licensing/credentialing such as: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR, and other accreditation as required.
  • Provide guidance and act as a role model to members and staff, demonstrating leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members and staff, creating an environment that highlights the achievement of youth.
  • Monitor registration, attendance, and program participation for members, all to maximize enrollment.
  • Work with the Development Team in the creation of marketing materials including: registration forms and flyers, social media messages, additional outreach materials, etc. and in addition ensure grant compliance that includes the following: program implementation, data collection, outcome measurement, and reporting.
  • Annually, complete a minimum of 20 hours of training related to job responsibilities.
  • Establish a network and develop an ongoing relationship with appropriate city personnel, vendors, program providers, as well as local school personnel, and members’ parents/guardians.
  • Ensure program supplies are maintained, and kept within the program budget, including the stocking of first-aid kits, and the functioning of AEDs.
  • Assist in the coordination of the National Youth Outcomes Initiative, RI Program Quality Assessment, BGCA Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and the overall quality of programs, working with staff to create action plans for improvement.
  • Ensure athletic and aquatics program areas are safe, clean, well-ventilated and well-lit, and that the facilities and equipment are properly maintained and meet all state/local codes and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure all Emergency Operation Plan policies are enforced at all times.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A four-year college degree from an accredited college in related youth development field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working at a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development agency.
  • Experience communicating with families and working with children with special needs/inclusion programming preferred.
  • Experience hiring, training, and managing staff, including scheduling.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and supervising camp programs.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to youth development, group leadership skills and an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sports, fitness, and recreation programming as well as aquatic programs, instruction and coaching techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets and control expenses.
  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO), CPR, and First Aid Certification required.
  • Lifeguard, Lifeguard Trainer and Basic Swimming Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written also required.
