Shipyard Staffing is currently hiring for HVACR Mechanics for work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.

 

HVACR Mechanic Description:

Will possess a basic knowledge, skills, and abilities, under supervision, to install and repair new and temporary HVACR equipment, components, and fixtures, on board Navy vessels, on job sites, and in the workshop.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Basic level knowledge for the installation and preventive maintenance, and repairs of new and temporary HVACR equipment, components, and systems, by inspecting, testing, repairing, and replacing HVACR equipment.

· Basic ability to safely cut or drill holes in floors, walls ceilings and roofs using power tools.

· Adjust system controls and settings recommended by the manufacturer to balance system.

· Exercise basic knowledge and understanding of HVACR theory and principles, Navy specifications and standards, properties of materials, and principles of operation of HVACR equipment and its components.

· Displays basic knowledge of different HVACR systems and the requirements for the installation and set-up consisting of 24-volt DC, 110-volt AC thru 440-volt AC equipment, components and systems.

· Assemble, position, and mount HVACR equipment, following manufacturer equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints to ensure conformance to job requirements and standards or codes.

· Practice safe and regulatory handling of various refrigerants used for HVAC equipment.

· Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as refrigeration gages, recovery machines, vacuum pumps, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, to include volt-ohm meters, ammeters, or test lamps.

· Perform physically demanding tasks, such as positioning HVACR equipment, installing ductwork, working at heights, and moving or lifting heavy objects.

· Performs all duties as deemed necessary by Project Manager, supervisor/foreman.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma or GED required, and 0-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience in field.

· Tech school/Trade school certification preferred, but not required.

· EPA Universal Certification (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F).
