Position: Tool Room Technician

Reports To: Tool Room Manager

1st Shift - 2nd Shift - Hybrid Shift

Must be available to train on 1st Shift (7a-3:30p) for a minimum of 4 weeks

Compensation Negotiable - Dependent on Experience

 

Position Summary:

Tool Room Technician primarily focuses on maintaining and repairing tools and dies for the Production Stamping Press side of our operations. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in tool and die maintenance, proficiency in utilizing cranes, Hi-Lo/Forklift, and familiarity with press gages for tool/die setup.

Essential Duties:

In keeping with the policies and procedures of the organization, along with all relevant legislative authority, the Tool Room Technician will:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and repair of tools and dies used in the Production Stamping Press operations.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with tools and dies to ensure optimal functionality, quality of parts and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with production and management teams to prioritize and address tool and die maintenance needs.
  • Utilize cranes and Hi-Lo/Forklift equipment to handle and transport tools and dies safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in setting up tools and dies into presses by adjusting fingers in each press if required.
  • Document maintenance activities, including repairs performed and parts used, for record-keeping and future reference.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tool and die performance and longevity.
  • Perform Last of Part review with supervisor to determine any repairs or preventive maintenance that needs to be performed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure working environment.

Education and/or Experience:

The Tool Room Technician will have at least 3 years of Manufacturing experience, combined with High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or apprenticeship in tool and die maintenance preferred.

  • Proven experience in maintaining and repairing tools and dies, preferably in the automotive manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in operating cranes, Hi-Lo/Forklift, and other relevant equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with press gages and their role in tool/die setup.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and good judgement / analytical skills, combined with strong leadership skills.
  • Able communicate professionally, verbally and in writing with all levels of team members and customers (if required).
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
