Safety Specialist (Position for Decatur, IL and Keokuk, IA Surrounding Area)

Ziegler Industries, Inc. is offering an Safety Specialist position that will be located in Keokuk, IA. This individual implements, manages, and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements for the organization. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment by conducting inspections to identify project conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions for the safety of staff and team partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the safety protocols followed on various job sites
• Organize safety training for employees
• Respond to emergency situations; provide reports of findings and submit recommendations
• Analyze accident and incident reports for trends and make recommendations for improvement to correct unsafe conditions
• Visit job sites to conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materials and/or detect existing or potential hazards; recommend corrective and/or preventative measures where appropriate
• Evaluate, assess, and alters safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees and clients
• Conduct safety training sessions for employees and vendors
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, DOT, etc.)
• Assist with injury and incident inquiries and evaluations
• Report findings to Management
• Assist in maintaining all job site records as they pertain to weekly and or other required training and or corrective actions as needed
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Project Manager

Qualifications:

• Occupational Health & Safety Occupations: 3-5 years (Required)
• Industrial Contracting: 3-5 years (Preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred but Not Required)
• Bilingual (Spanish and English Preferred but Not Required)
• MSHA Experience: 3-5 years (Preferred)

The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and understand the specific safety issues inherent to construction sites. The job includes significant fieldwork.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Knowledge of OSHA and DOT standards with regard to construction
• Ability to train, influence and motivate team members
• Proficiency in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
• Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Ability to work with diverse team members
• Sound integrity and professional ethics
• Handles confidential information with tact and discretion on a need-to-know basis
