Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Funeral Director to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and directing funeral services, co-managing daily operations, community involvement, and providing exceptional care to our clients and their families.

The position will have the full support of the owner, a funeral director, a funeral director & assistant manager, a secretary, and part-time staff to assist with removals and services. This position will report directly to the owner of the business.

Specific Responsibilities

Operations: Demonstrate extensive operations and industry knowledge in the execution of all aspects of funeral home and crematory operations and ultimately focus on servicing the customer.

· Responsible for daily delivery of goods and services to all at-need families including transfer of remains, preparation of the deceased, arrangement conference, securing legal permits, coordination of services, offering merchandise, arranging for final disposition and memorialization. This includes the responsibility to assist in scheduling support of the entire organization.

· Arrange, conduct and monitor funerals and funeral contracts in an organized, professional manner in accordance with company guidelines, values and expectations.

· Ensure delivery of exceptional customer service and monitor family survey results.

Review the Company Service Standards and adapt as needed to maintain exceptional customer service. Ensure Service Standards are consistently reviewed and reinforced with the team.

· Continuously review processes and procedures to identify areas for training/potential improvement/cost reduction.

Staff Management and Leadership: Ensure employees get the coaching and support necessary for them to be successful in their jobs. Develop and maintain cooperation and teamwork. Provide direction and motivation to employees to achieve goals and objectives. Set a good example of desired behaviors.

· Work alongside the other assistant manager to coach, motivate, develop and supervise staff. Be sensitive to needs and monitor morale through the consistent commitment to One-to-One Meetings with direct reports.

· Ensure proper use of personnel including review of OT and schedule vacation coverage.

· Oversee employee training, development, and accountability; employee welfare; and employee recognition in accordance with the Company’s World Class Internal Culture.

· Actively participate and promote the importance of the daily team meetings.

· Participate in Leadership Team meetings and provide monthly overviews of the Locations of Responsibility.

Grow/Maintain Market ShareDevelop/maintain customer and community relationships and gain/maintain market share. Develop and implement marketing and business growth initiatives.

· Participate in the development, implementation and management of all funeral home marketing and business growth initiatives including advertising and promotion and pre-need lead generation initiatives.

· Retain heritage and grow market share through active involvement with key community, religious and civic organizations, leading to development of 'meaningful' relationships.

· Plan and participate in community events designed to heighten awareness of the funeral homes’ brand.

· Monitor niche markets (based on areas of town/ethnic/religious groups etc.) to grow market share.

Working Conditions

Physical

Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is occasionally required (i.e., between 5% and 25% of time on the job). Must have the physical ability to move, lift and carry persons and equipment related to the funeral industry.

Experience and Educational Requirements

· Associate’s degree, or equivalent

· State Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer or able to reciprocate

· 5-10 years funeral directing experience

· Demonstrated skills in budgeting, financial planning and cash management is a plus

· Proficient in office technology skills including use MS Office and email software

· Strong leadership skills

· Ability to multitask and set priorities

· Ability to motivate and persuade

· Professional and team player
