Latrobe, United States Basic Carbide Corporation Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Basic Carbide considers I.D. and O.D. grinders as skilled laborers. These workers typically finish grind tungsten carbide preforms to a specified size as indicated on a print. This work is performed using various machines including but not limited to Studer, Danobat, Overbeck, Heald internal grinders. These machines can be manually, or computer controlled. Individuals operating these machines are required to load, grind, and remove parts ranging in weight from several ounces to several hundred pounds.

I.D. and O.D. Grinding tasks are usually performed in a standing position from 9 to 12 hours per day with a 15-minute morning and 30-minute lunch break.

Loading and removing of parts can be accomplished by hand on smaller parts or with the assistance of mechanical devices on larger parts.

I.D and O.D. Grinding of the material may require manual manipulation of the part while manually adjusting the machine. On other parts no human interaction is necessary after loading the part and starting the program. In these cases, the part is simply monitored until it is ready for removal.

Parts manufactured in the surface grinding department are generally held to a dimensional tolerance of +/- 0.0001" which requires workers to be able to read and manually manipulate measuring devices such as gauge blocks, Micrometers, indicators and other precision measurement equipment.
