A medical practice scheduler is responsible for managing the appointment schedule of a healthcare facility, such as a doctor's office, clinic, or hospital. The following are the typical job duties and responsibilities of a medical practice scheduler:

  • Scheduling patient appointments: The primary responsibility of a medical practice scheduler is to schedule patient appointments. They are responsible for ensuring that appointments are scheduled efficiently and effectively, without double-booking or overbooking.
  • Answering patient inquiries: Medical practice schedulers must be knowledgeable about the services offered by the healthcare facility and be able to answer patient inquiries regarding scheduling, medical procedures, and insurance coverage.
  • Input insurance coverage: Medical practice schedulers must input patients' insurance coverage before scheduling appointments, and inform patients of any out-of-pocket costs.
  • Updating patient records: Medical practice schedulers are responsible for updating patient records with appointment information, insurance coverage, and any other relevant information.
  • Coordinating with medical staff: Medical practice schedulers must coordinate with medical staff to ensure that patient appointments are scheduled at appropriate times, and that patients receive the care they need in a timely manner.
  • Managing cancellations and rescheduling: Medical practice schedulers must handle cancellations and rescheduling requests from patients, and work to ensure that patients are seen as soon as possible.
  • Maintaining confidentiality: Medical practice schedulers must maintain patient confidentiality at all times, and ensure that patient records are kept secure and private.

  • Knowledge of basic math and modern office equipment

Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 6 months customer service in medical setting
  • Allscripts PM knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening
