OMSNIC Claims Technician servs as the first point of contact with our policyholder doctors and dentists, and is a trusted partner assisting them with initial support and information throughout the unfamiliar world of claims. The Claims Technician manages the initial claim intake, investigates, and manages incidents; manages state reports filing as necessary and initial claims file set-up.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration

  • Handle initial claims reporting from policyholders
  • Conduct initial interview with policyholders
  • Maintain incident files
  • Responsible for setting up all new claims in PAC
  • Review pre-litigated cases
  • Analyze PAC set-up and medical records for completeness

Reporting

  • Report information to the National Practitioner Data bank when appropriate
  • Report information to state entities per state requirements
  • Work closely with the Regulatory Department
    1. Monitor appropriate websites regarding national and state issues that impact our reporting requirements
    2. Maintain Claims department account information for national and state websites
  • Maintain and manage productivity reports

General

  • Assure communication with agents, insureds, or other parties regarding the initial claim set-up
  • Maintain minutes for the monthly CCR meetings
  • May participate in special projects and present results to management
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives and projects
  • Provide high level of service to internal and external contacts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree, will consider a demonstrated equivalent professional experience
  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience as paralegal; claims, medical malpractice claims highly preferred
  • Working understanding of medical records
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites with emphasis on Excel and Word

  • Ability to follow instructions independently, respond quickly to requests and work well under pressure
  • Ability to maintain positive attitude towards assignments and easily adapts priorities to meet company needs
  • Ability to maintain good working relationship with all employees including co-workers, managers, and executives
