The HR associate should have strong communication skills, be self-aware, and be motivated to help others grow. He/she should also have good organizational skills, be able to multitask, keep information confidential, and remain objective.

Human Resources Duties

  1. Maintains HRIS system (ADP): Employee personal, employment, payroll, and time-keeping data
  2. Recruitment: Assisting with recruitment efforts, screening candidates, and verifying candidate backgrounds
  3. Onboarding: Collect and file required documents for compliance
  4. Employee relations: Communicate effectively with hiring managers, new employees, current staff, and external parties. Assist with investigations and take notes as needed
  5. Compliance: Ensure compliance with HR policies and regulations, such as those related to benefits and employment law
  6. Training: Coordinating training programs and employee and team development opportunities
  7. Administrative tasks: Updating databases, managing documentation, and maintaining HR records
  8. Payroll: Assist with semi-monthly payroll processing
  9. Annual open enrollment: Assist in the annual open enrollment process
  10. Assist in planning and coordinating special events and recognition programs for employees

Work Environment

This job operates in a child/adult center environment and is based in an office. The position interacts with staff, visitors, agencies, vendors, volunteers, parents and children in classrooms and outdoor facilities on a daily basis. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate patience and politely deal with numerous interruptions, prioritize multiple tasks, offer assistance, and work with minimal supervision. There are deadlines and report requirements that require organization, planning, focus and detailed work at a desk and computer.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb and balance. There may be occasional need to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration or an equivalent combination of education, training, or working experience.
  2. One to two years in an office setting

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Previous experience in education or non-profit management
  2. PHR Certification or SHRM-CP preferred

Work Authorization, Health and Security Clearance

  1. First Aid/CPR Certification
  2. Medical clearance from infectious diseases and other health issues in order to work in a child and applicable adult center environment.
  3. Security clearance in order to work in a child and applicable adult center environment.
