SUMMARY:
Provides comprehensive services to children and their families through home visits and group
socialization activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Possesses knowledge of and performs in accordance with all aspects of the program
including Performance Standards, Service Delivery Plan, all program policies and NJ
Office of Licensing regulations.
2. Follow protocol and L.E.A.P., Inc. policies and procedures.
3. For Home Visitors without an early childhood education or related degree, enrolls in first
available classes to obtain an infant / toddler CDA credential. Continues education to
maintain credential once obtained.
4. Works in partnership with parents to develop and implement individualized family
partnership agreements.
5. Possesses working knowledge of and develops partnerships with available community
resources. Assists families in linking with community resources and services. Follows
up referrals to community resources.
6. Provides a minimum of one 90 minute home visit per week to children and two 60-
minute home visits per month to pregnant women enrolled in the home-based option;
includes a minimum of one literacy activity per week and one nutritional activity per
month.
7. Orients all Early Head Start service areas during home visits.
8. Integrates each family into the Early Head Start program. Encourages parent
involvement in program activities, meetings, and as volunteers. Promotes father
involvement in the lives of their children.
9. Creates and maintains a file for each child and associated paperwork for each child.
10. Maintains current and accurate records. Ensures confidentiality of family information.
11. Maintain children’s electronic records on Child Plus.
12. Plans and facilitates, at a minimum, two socialization activities per month for each child.
13. Maintains the socialization room to ensure a safe, healthy, and age appropriate
environment.
14. Plans weekly individualized home visit plans, including IFSP goals if necessary.
15. Works collaboratively with Early Head Start Manager in designing and implementing
programs to expand parental strengths and interests in child development, education, health, nutrition, mental health, community advocacy and program governance.
16. Facilitates transitions into Early Head Start and from Early Head Start into Head Start or
other child care settings.
17. Maintains a flexible daily schedule to accommodate parent availability for home visits.
18. Monitors the EHS vehicle to ensure safety and proper maintenance.
19. Assist in acquisition and documentation of in-kind to meet the programs non-federal
match.
20. Attends staff meetings, training sessions and workshops.
21. Lifts, carries and holds up to 45 pounds.
22. Other duties as assigned by Early Head Start Manager or Executive Director deemed
necessary for program operations and for the health, welfare and safety of staff, children
and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a licensed or registered birth – 5 year old child care setting
- OR Infant / Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR College degree in
- Early Childhood Education OR College degree in a related field with preschool teaching
- experience. A degree in a related field means a college degree with a program of study,
- which included six (6) or more courses in early childhood education or child development.
- Preschool experience means completion or supervised teaching and experience as a
- preschool teacher in a licensed program or employment as a public preschool teacher.
- Ability to speak, read and write English
- Ability to deal effectively with public and staff
- Ability to communicate and work with children and adults from diverse backgrounds
- Valid drivers license and access to transportation as needed
