Reading Teacher Job Description:

 

The teacher position is responsible for coaching, motivating, and instructing high school students within the school’s model with attention given to each student’s graduation plan. All courses are aligned to state standards and are delivered in such a way as to engage student learning and accelerate the accumulation of credits through an online-based curriculum. All instruction is provided in a small group setting or a 1:1 setting. In many respects, the teacher acts as a coach and mentor in this environment and is specifically focused on ensuring the success of all students. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides a team-oriented learning environment that is student-centered and aligned with school academic goals and specified objectives.

  • Consults with students on the homeroom list consistently to ensure connectivity with the school.

  • Provides positive support for all the students within the classroom in conjunction with overseeing and monitoring individual student progress. Monitors use of resources and equipment.

  • Appropriately enforces the School’s Code of Student Conduct.

  • Provides direction and leadership within the classroom by displaying an effective working knowledge of the subject matter and by demonstrating best practices relating to instructional strategies to reach all students.

  • Maintains and completes progress reports, attendance and behavioral records, academic grades, and other student records as required by the state that are also aligned with the regulatory guidelines and school policies and procedures. 

  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop, plan, and implement best educational practices based on the individual academic-emotional needs of the students and aligned with the goals of the school.

  • Participates in professional development courses or activities to maintain appropriate certification or credentials based on position.

 

Duties specific to Reading Teacher:

  • Manages entering and deleting student user accounts from Reading Plus and Applerouth.

  • Downloads and leads the PLC Team in evaluating data from formative and summative assessments.

  • Facilitates Agendas for the  ELA PLC team.

  • Assists the ELA PLC team in maintaining spreadsheets for Summative Test Results

  • Provides Individualized prep and small group instruction for ACT, CLT, SAT, and state testing.

  • Conducts and Models Student Data Chats when assessment information is shared.

  • Share data analysis with the Leadership Team and with the entire staff, as needed.

  • Works closely with the Graduation Coaches to ensure students are preparing to pass the Reading Concordant Test before graduation deadlines.

  • Seeks out resources and best practices for intervention and remediation.

  • Attends county meetings/trainings that apply to Secondary Reading. 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education

Reading Endorsement or in the process of earning the reading endorsement.

Experience with working with a drop-out prevention population.
