Preschool Teacher

SUMMARY: Responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered program of activities that promotes the social-emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child through exploration and discovery. All practices must be consistent with guidelines put forth by Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center, Inc., the Newark Board of Education, and the NJ Preschool Teaching & Learning Standards.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A TEACHING CERTIFICATION FROM THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY WITH ENDORSEMENT OF PRESCHOOL THROUGH THIRD GRADE.

Successful candidates must possess the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree: Early Childhood Education (preferred major); and
• NJ Preschool – Grade 3 Standard (or CE, CEAS, TE) Certificate; PLUS
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience (assistant or lead).
• Experience with children with disabilities is preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate/articulate the following:

• Documented experience in working with young children and families.
• A strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood development including working with traditional and non-traditional families.
• Success in working as a member of a teaching team.
• Effective and strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively through electronic means.
• Ability to understand and analyze child outcomes data, and use such to individualize instruction.
• Ability to speak, read, and write on an academic level in English.
• PREFERRED: Ability to speak, read, and write on an academic level in a second language (Yoruba, Igbo, or Twi).
• Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program.
