Position Summary:

The Director Laboratory Services provides leadership for the operation, quality and quantity of the hospital laboratories on a 24- hour basis. Is accountable for cost control, budget, quality assessment/control program. Directs the placement of personnel by qualifications and expertise in the best-suited position. Directs orientation of new employees, and work assignments. Coordinates staff development with inter- and intradepartmental education programs, as well as outside sources. Responsible for hiring, termination, promotion, and discipline of employees. Directs evaluation of supervised personnel. Maintains open communication with pathologists. Informs pathologists of problems with diagnostic procedures and any other information the needed to provide Laboratory oversight. Available to nursing service, medical staff and other hospital staff, and practioner sites for consultation in all matters pertaining to the Laboratory and its services. Is responsible for recognizing and implementing additional services to the laboratory through collaboration with Pathologists and Vice President, Ancillary Services as trends in technology, instrumentation and physician ordering patterns suggest the need. Knowledgeable of laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators that are age dependent. Directs testing procedures on adult, child, adolescent, neonate and geriatric patients.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Prepared (Prefer in Management, Business or Finance)
  • Registered Medical Technologist MLS (ASCP) or equivilent
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Clinical Laboratory Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years progressive leadership experience in an Acute Care Hospital setting
