Purpose:
We are seeking a talented and motivated "Network Engineer II" to join our dynamic IT team. As a Network Engineer II, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's network infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity, optimal performance, and security. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify and address network-related issues, contribute to network design discussions, and implement best practices to support our growing technology needs by helping to design and support network elements.  Analyzes, resolves, and reports on network issues.  Must be able to weigh business needs against the need for network changes and articulate issues to management.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks.
  • Support the implementation and management of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity, latency, and other related issues to ensure optimal user experience.
  • Collaborate with system administrators and security teams to implement network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
  • Participate in capacity planning and network expansion efforts to accommodate the organization's growth and evolving technology requirements.
  • Assist in the evaluation and integration of new networking technologies and solutions.
  • Respond to and resolve network incidents and service disruptions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior team members as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in networking.
  • Ensure Change Management and other procedures are followed.
  • Document network procedures and system configurations.
  • Install, maintain, and configure Cisco routers/switches, firewall, VPN, VLANs.
  • Monitor/Resolve LAN/WAN performance, health, and security issues.
  • Install, maintain, and configure all wireless networks.
  • Install, configure, and maintain all LAN/WAN hardware and cabling.
  • Participate in Network Operations planning.
  • Support all Administrators and developers as required.
  • Develop/test and analyze new technical solutions to problems.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all Network assets, purchase history, and warranty data.
  • Install, maintain, and configure all voice & data communication circuits.
  • Perform disaster recovery of all network systems.
  • Perform backup and restores of network systems.
  • Implements policies to ensure the security and integrity of the network.
Scope Indicators:

Network Configuration and Maintenance: Responsible for configuring, installing, and maintaining network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Ensure proper functioning of network devices and implement updates or patches as needed.

Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network-related issues, including connectivity problems, latency, and downtime. Utilize troubleshooting tools and methodologies to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

Network Monitoring and Performance: Monitor network performance, traffic patterns, and usage to proactively identify potential bottlenecks or performance degradation. Take necessary actions to optimize network resources and ensure optimal user experience.

Security Implementation: Collaborate with security teams to implement network security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls. Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments to safeguard network integrity.

Network Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, topologies, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Ensure documentation is easily accessible to team members for reference and knowledge sharing.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, application developers, and IT support, to ensure seamless integration of network services and resolve interdepartmental network-related issues.

Project Support: Provide technical expertise and support for network-related projects, such as network upgrades, expansions, or migrations. Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful implementation of network changes.

Emerging Technologies: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging networking technologies, and best practices. Evaluate and recommend new technologies that could enhance network performance, security, and efficiency.

Capacity Planning: Assist in capacity planning efforts to accommodate the organization's growth and evolving technology requirements. Evaluate network bandwidth needs and propose scaling solutions as needed.

Training and Knowledge Sharing: Continuously enhance your own skills and knowledge in networking technologies and share insights with team members. Provide guidance and training to junior team members to facilitate their professional growth.

Incident Response: Respond to and resolve network incidents and service disruptions in a timely manner. Collaborate with relevant teams to mitigate impacts and prevent recurrence.

Change Management: Adhere to established change management processes when implementing network changes or updates. Ensure changes are well-documented and communicated to stakeholders.

Results:  As a Network Engineer II, your level of responsibility for obtaining and supporting the achievements of business results is primarily focused on ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the organization's network infrastructure. While your role may not directly drive business strategies or revenue generation, your contributions play a crucial role in enabling various business functions and operations.

Required/Preferred Skills:
  • Bachelors Degree in MIS or similar discipline is preferred.
  • At least 5 yrs. experience as a Network Engineer.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.), and technologies.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or other major providers.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools such as: Cisco IOS, Cisco ACS, Cisco WCS, Cisco WLC, Cisco MARS, Stealth Watch.
  • Basic knowledge of network security principles and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Required – CCNA routing and switching.
  • Preferred – CCNA wireless.
  • Preferred – CCNA voice.
  • Any related certificates are welcomed.

Salary Range/Benefits:  $65,940 to $94,300 per yr. + an outstanding benefits package.
