Job Summary:

this role entails overseeing and managing a team of drivers, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of freight, assigning loads, and delivering excellent customer service. Compliance with DOT regulations is essential, along with ensuring adherence to company policies by all drivers. The transportation manager will collaborate with internal and external partners to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight efficiently. Flexibility in scheduling is crucial for operational success, including availability for various shifts such as days, nights, and weekends to ensure adequate coverage.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and nurture positive professional relationships with drivers and prioritize safety to minimize turnover and enhance ongoing productivity.
  • Step in for absent or unavailable staff and oversee special projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and driving profitability.
  • Employ personnel management strategies, including driver training and orientation, and provide support with internal and third-party (customer) systems.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of fleet operations and profitability, offering recommendations for continuous enhancement. Define and track key performance indicators, and deliver customer-specific reporting and financial analysis through direct or virtual interactions.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, resolution of payment issues, invoicing, and generation of operational or financial reports.
  • Collaborate with drivers, customers, and internal teams to address service concerns, routing and planning, mechanical issues, accessorial pay disputes, etc., as they arise throughout the day and, if necessary, during on-call hours.
  • Uphold the company's safety culture through daily driver safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training sessions, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and safety protocols.
  • Assign loads and oversee freight movement planning, routing, and monitoring to ensure safe, punctual service and meet customer expectations. Manage exceptions in freight handling and adjust driver ETA based on pickup and delivery schedules and road conditions.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED AND 2-3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military service, with flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends if required.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Track record of nurturing strong customer relationships through commitment delivery, transparent communication, and continuous feedback.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy in processing information.
  • Aptitude for making informed decisions based on thorough analysis of situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Willingness to travel consistently to account and customer locations.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing work environments and shifting priorities.
  • Experience in holding individuals accountable and conducting challenging conversations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure work environment.
