Mechanic Helper

JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, services and repairs automotive air-cooled vehicles and/or water-cooled equipment and machines; performs related work as required.
Work involves regular contact with other departments and divisions.
** WORK SCHEDULE: EVENINGS FROM 2PM - 1030 PM **
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Washes, changes oil, lubricates, fills equipment with gas, changes and repairs tires on automotive equipment.
- Keeps complete records of gasoline usage.
- Performs minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.
- Assists mechanics in major preventive maintenance or repair work, and a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
- Picks up and returns vehicles, makes road calls of a service nature and picks up parts from commercial parts shops.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and some experience in performing routine servicing of automotive equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:
- Knowledge of automotive servicing, heavy truck repair, landscape equipment and light mechanical repair work.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in servicing of automotive equipment.
- Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
- Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain equipment-servicing schedules, records and reports.
- Ability to learn basic automotive procedures and safety precautions.
- Ability to operate equipment that requires a high degree of manipulative skill.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a valid Class A Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
