Purpose:
Guided by the co-ops ends policies to set and provide high quality, safe, natural wellness products, as
well as health beauty aids to the members of our community. Provide a high level of customer
service and treat our employees and suppliers with fairness and respect. The goal is to achieve all of
this while meeting or beating our targets for margin, labor, and turns every quarter
Status
Level III, Part Time, Nonexempt position reporting to Grocery Manager, Assistant Manager, and
General Manager

Responsibilities:
I. Customer Service
a. Treat people fairly, consistently and with respect so that they are given a reason to return
b. Establish customer service as the first priority
c. Ensure efficient and friendly service from all staff working in your department
d. Ensure all staff are properly trained through the Co-op Passport and in your department
e. Provide product information and educational materials to customers and staff
II. Purchasing
a. Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms quantity and delivery
b. Coordinate demos, sales, and promotional displays
c. Evaluate suppliers investigate new item selection consult with GM for approval
d. Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures.
e. Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of credit
requests
f. Review invoices for accuracy, code appropriately, and pass on to the finance department
g. Achieve sales, turns and margin goals for department

III. Merchandising
a. Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked and rotated. Set stocking priorities for stocking team.
Stock items as needed.
b. Plan attractive displays
c. Conduct periodic comparisons with competitors
d. As a lead employee, may train new employees in area of expertise and provide grocery staff with
guidance regarding day to day activities and priorities in the absence of the Grocery Manager.
e. Ensure accurate, up-to-date shelf tags of department items.
f. Solicit suppliers for promotional offerings.
g. Provide product information to newsletter, customers, and staff.

IV. Department Maintenance
a. Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that un-sellable items are properly
disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage records.
b. Ensure that department shelves, displays, aisles and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition,
meeting health department standards.
c. Participate in quarterly inventory; ensuring inventorying of department is accurate.
d. Maintain department equipment in working order. Advise General Manager of equipment repair,
replacement needs, and desired equipment purchases.

V. Additional Tasks
a. Attend department meetings as necessary.
b. Keep accurate records of requested products
c. Promptly answer “customer suggestion forms,” return call if requested and post on board.
d. Train staff who will fill in for you when you are unavailable.
e. Maintain professional standards, i.e. punctuality, neatness, pleasant helpful manner
f. Cashier as needed
g. Keep up on industry trends, news and legislation
h. Other duties as assigned

Physical demands work environment
Work environment may be crowded and noisy a majority of the time
Store temperatures may, at times be cooler or hotter than comfortable for active or sedentary tasks
Qualifications:
* Retail experience
* Knowledge of natural foods natural foods industry
* Good organizational skills, demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written, clear instructions
* Self starter, demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments
* Knowledge of co-ops and member owned organizations
* Objectivity and calmness in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to work as a member of a team
* Ability to lift 50(+) lbs
* Familiarity with basic computer programs
* Math Skills
* Regular predictable attendance, requires some early morning hours
* Commitment to superior customer service and to provide the highest quality shopping experience possible
