Position: Shop Inspector

Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Auburn, Washington

Department: Quality Assurance

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for receiving, in-process and final Inspection of aircraft components for a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 145 Repair Station Quality Management System including, but not limited to: Airworthy assessments of all incoming and outgoing materials; Full FAA, organizational and subcontractor compliance with all regulations, specifications, documentation and airworthiness directives and; audit and surveillance inspection and corrective action processes. This position reports to the Chief Inspector. The position is responsible for decision making that may have a significant impact on the organization’s earnings, operations and reputation.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform incoming receiving inspection, teardown, in-process and final inspections of all repair work performed by various internal shops.
  • Perform hidden damage inspections on all incident and accident related work orders.
  • Ensure all repair work performed is accomplished in accordance with current applicable manufacturer's or air carrier's specifications, data acceptable and approved by the FAA, and current FAA regulations.
  • Ensure all required shop equipment under supervision is maintained in appropriate calibration status.
  • Review and authorize minor alteration work orders for validity of each step in accordance with acceptable data.
  • Maintain minor alteration work order documentation and issue to work orders.
  • Review engineering responses for accuracy, verification to acceptable data and recommend Technical Information Program (TIP) Sheets when required.
  • Review, initiate and submit service difficulty reports for respective shops.
  • Review and certify new and modified test equipment and special test procedures.
  • Review and verify information for shop capability additions and limited airframe addition requests as required.
  • Reject and disposition non-conforming articles located in the shop.
  • Perform internal audits of other departments for according to regulation requirements. Documents and maintains revision status of technical sheets.
  • Perform technical data revision checks and updates as required during off shift or absences of the technical librarian.
  • Perform incoming receiving inspection of articles used in the shops as required during off shift or weekend periods.
  • Inspect machine shop operations in the absence of the machine shop inspector.
  • Inspect and return to service those articles that are assigned to the inspector’s respective shop and as required those airframe articles listed on the limited airframe capability list.
  • Ensure all compliance of Company inspection standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Secure and maintain technical data on assigned areas.
  • Perform internal audit as an ongoing process, and discrepancies and corrective actions are documented and resolved.
  • Assist enforcement of defective or non-airworthy parts are not installed in any component or unit released by the Repair Station.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of required documents and of all materials to specifications.
  • Follow and adhere to all policies and regulations.
  • Back up department functions and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report to work on a regular and consistent basis.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Eighteen (18) months of experience performing the type of work which they will be inspecting.
  • FAA Airframe and Power Plant or Airframe License or be eligible for an FAA Repairman's Certificate in accordance with FAR Part 65.
  • Familiarity with aviation industry, aircraft knowledge and technical documents.
  • This position requires drug testing and criminal background check in accordance with FAA regulations.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) or more years in an inspection capacity performing the type of work which they will be inspecting.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent work in an office environment with extended computer use and paperwork.
  • Frequent work in a production and controlled environment setting.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and have freedom of movement to enable inspection of interior and exterior of small to large uniquely shaped parts.
  • Must have a good vision and be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work additional hours if needed.

Starting Pay Scale: $25-$27/hr

Overall Pay Scale: $25-$40/hr
