POSITION OVERVIEW

The information provided below encompasses the functions and capabilities linked with this position. It is required that this position actively supports Beaverton Foods and all employees and customers in a positive manner.

Reporting directly to the QA Manager, this position performs tests to ensure that raw ingredients, products in process, and finished products are utilized and manufactured according to the written formulas and specifications. This position also assists with monitoring that all packaging and tracking follows Good Manufacturing Practices,Food Safety/Defense and HACCP.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists the QA Manager in supporting, training, and following all HACCP, Food Safety, Food Defense and Quality Assurance regulations and programs. Completes required reports/documents and follow up on all processes as assigned.

 

· Completes quality control weight checks for all products manufactured on both shifts and oversees their correctness. Collects samples of products from the operating lines; checks and records fill volumes and weights on charts. Informs Production Supervisors and QA Manager of incorrect fill volumes, fill weights, or other substandard manufactured products or processes.

· Visually inspects labeling, coding, and packaging of finished products. Informs Production Supervisors and Employees of out of tolerance labeling or incorrect coding or packaging.

· Conducts technical lab analysis of raw ingredients, products in process, and finished products according to written specifications and quality assurance procedures.

· Standardizes, calibrates, and utilizes scientific equipment such as titrators, pH meters, refractometers, consistometer, pipets, weight scales, viscometers, and microscopes. Logs the results of calibration of equipment and testing procedures.

· Utilizes written analytical procedures, including the manufacture, standardization and use of chemical reagents and solutions.

· Prepares data and performs computer data entry to record information regarding all test results consistent with current documented procedures, written or verbal instruction from the technical director or company policy. Maintains all quality control records in formula and date order and creates new records when required.

· Complete and distribute Run/Hold/Disposition forms

· Performs detailed label checks to ensure FDA compliance

· Collects samples of finished products to create and retain samples. Maintains and rotates retain sample inventory and removes old inventory to disposal.

· Responsible for the general cleaning and organization of the lab to maintain a functional testing environment.

· Exercises oversight authority for raw materials, batch mixing and packaging lines. Possesses the authority to stop, hold, divert, or retain batches or finished products when test or weight check results indicate that corrective action is necessary to meet established quality or customer parameters. Reports all issues to Production Supervisor(s) and the QA Manager. Corrective action means a decision that is made by higher authority that authorizes the continued manufacture or provides the disposition of such materials or processes.

· Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of inventory control principles, GMPs and Allergen programs, HACCP, Food Safety, Food Defense, and Quality Control Hazard Communication.

· Cover QA Tech’s vacations when needed.

· Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

Qualification Requirements and Skills needed.

· Bachelor’s degree in food science and technology, or scientific field or human nutrition from a four-year college or university; one year experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret trade periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations, scientific reports, methods and techniques in English. Ability to write or revise reports, business correspondence, test methods, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees at all levels, customers, and the general public.

· Basic mathematical skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to prioritize and work independently.

· Ability to systematically organize various types of documents for easy retrieval.

· Ability to utilize computer programs such as MS EXCEL, MS WORD and the customer service module of the company’s accounting software in a network environment.

· Data entry, 10-key by touch and legible handwriting.

 

 

This position is responsible to support all HACCP, Food Safety, Food Fraud, Food Defense programs and regulations by completing all Lot Tracking, Critical Control Point and Sanitation requirements.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Beaverton Foods’ documents and policies are written in English.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for long hours at food shows, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
