Job DescriptionJob Description

The engineer in this position will support a Navy customer with technical experience related to tactical data link technology innovation and the rapid fielding of these capabilities into the Joint Force.   Candidates will need to bring a technical understanding of data links and related technology.  Using this knowledge, the candidate will help the customer understand the products on the market and solutions being presented to the warfighter.  The candidate will support systems engineering tasks, engineering analyses, trade studies, and feasibility assessments supporting systems engineering activities, including technical support for Analyses of Alternatives (AoA).  The unique nature of this role will allow the engineer (and team) to evaluate and develop complex system designs and architectures of communications systems designed to meet the immediate and foreseeable needs of the warfighter.  

Candidate will need to enjoy working closely with a blended team working in a fast paced, high-profile environment in direct support of the warfighter.    The team will have a variety of stakeholders and engineering disciplines related to Tactical Data Links.  

Sample tasking may include:

  • Provide engineering expertise to support emerging platform requirements definition and integration support, including review of platform documentation, specifications, and drawings and participating in associated Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), teleconferences, and platform Systems Engineering
  • Apply system engineering principles and expertise to review and provide technical comments on the specifications and interface documents that establish the Functional Baseline (FBL), Allocated Baseline (ABL), and Product Baseline (PBL), including reviewing Technical Data Packages
  • Provide engineering expertise across the product development process – including working directly with the warfighter to support the development of platform use cases based on customer concept of operations (CONOPS) through regular customer interaction, analysis of threat information, and understanding of existing technology
  • Develop quantitative feasibility analyses on possible solutions to increase system effectiveness and integrate new capabilities
  • Verify complex system designs to ensure conformance with function specifications and customer requirements including support of system level integration and test of complex real-time embedded systems
  • Provide engineering expertise to Technical Working Groups (TWG) to provide technical support, resolve action items, and summarize issues and recommendations to the respective organizational leads

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and maintain) a Top-Secret Clearance (additional clearance levels may be required)
  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (System Engineer, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar STEM discipline) and at least 10 years of relevant experience with communication systems (Master’s Degree is a plus)
  • Sound understanding of system engineering concepts and principles in order to support required documentation for DoD technologies
  • Technical Expertise in one or more of the following areas:   Radio Frequency (RF), RF Circuits, analog hardware design, Field Programable Gate Array (FPGA), Radio Navigation, Signal Processing, Audio Engineering, Software Design, Computer Architecture and/or other technologies that could be related to Tactical Data Links
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including an ability to collaborate across variety of stakeholders including the warfighter, civil servants, and other contractor teammates
