Position Overview

This is a new position to provide leadership and direction for the increasing scope of health-related programming at NIDC.

  • Working in a highly interdependent and dynamic environment, the Director of Health Initiatives (DHI) will define, create, implement, and monitor all NIDC Health Hub health and mental health-based programming that improve the lives of students, families, and residents in The Bronx and beyond
  • Under a five-year NYS DOH grant, this position will initially focus on and launch the new NIDC Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program in close collaboration with other internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • The DHI will also provide leadership and direction for NIDC’s Social Work services.

The Director of Health Initiatives is a senior organizational leadership position and will participate in the ongoing evolution of NIDC through the implementation of our three-year strategic plan and other organizational processes. 

The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, including grant writing and public speaking, as well as a strong EQ (Emotional Quotient), a demonstrated capacity for departmental administration and execution, attention to detail, and strong follow-up skills. The DHI will be able to work autonomously and thrive in NIDC’s highly interdependent and dynamic environment

The DHI will report directly to the Associate Executive Director in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Quality Assurance

  • Utilize research and analytical skills to lead and participate in the development and implementation of new evidence-based program initiatives
  • Help find and secure funding and other resources for Health Hub initiatives, including preparing draft proposals and writing for grant writing
  • Define program goals and create action plans for success
  • Help develop and track measurable outcomes for each initiative
  • Review and develop curricula for various health-based programming
  • Train program facilitators and other staff on health-related topics, instruction, and curricula
  • Observe and evaluate programming, giving feedback for efficacy and growth

Coordination of Programming

  • Work with department heads to bring health-related programming to all NIDC client populations
  • Coordinate with program supervisors to implement the SRAE curriculum in afterschool programs
  • Work with the SRAE advisory board and medical advisor
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with relevant organizations to serve as program partners and a referral network

Management and Supervision

  • Participate in hiring and supervision of health program facilitators and other department staff
  • Oversee all aspects of current health-related programming to ensure program quality, contract compliance, and all administrative functions
  • Supervise the Social Worker program
  • Deliver and/or coordinate workshops with program staff related to mental and physical health
  • Support the program leadership team
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team on professional development initiatives for program staff

Key Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Work, or related field required
  • 3-5 years of management experience required
