Description Summary: With a company priority of producing original content for all the products on KaTom.com, the writers who produce those descriptions are critical to KaTom's mission and continued growth. They must distill technical content into understandable prose and bulleted lists, guided by the AP Stylebook and house style rules. Each writer is also expected to participate in a peer editing process with his or her team. Because of the volume of products we offer online, this is a high-demand position that requires a keen eye for detail in style, structure, and technical details. Working hours are in office 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

· Produce an average of 64 product descriptions per week without sacrificing quality

· Complete tasks assigned through project management system within deadlines

· Write in professional and readable style, guided by AP Stylebook and house style precepts

· Participate in peer editing process with other members of the product content team

· Apply SEO best practices in writing

· Actively participate in regular on-site and occasional off-site trainings

· Use available resources – company experts, industry resources, and vendor websites – to gain an understanding of products and categories as needed

· Contribute to ongoing development and updating of house style guide

· Participate in weekly discussions with three written content teams – product, longform, and editorial – that drive content calendar and produce collaborative style decisions

· Work intensively in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Requires regular and predictable attendance

· All other duties as assigned

· Education and/or experience: Position necessitates advanced writing capability that may be gained through education and/or professional experience

· Firm grasp of AP Stylebook precepts

· Flexibility to adapt to changes in work expectations

· Interest in learning and applying knowledge in work

· Intermediate computer skills, including in use of Microsoft suite and internet navigation

· High-level organizational skills and keen attention to detail

· Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables

· Other Qualifications: Willingness to perform any required task within the employee’s capabilities in order to effectively meet the needs of the company. Ability to get along well with others.

Work is typically completed in a large, open office. Employees in this department work at desks separated by low dividers, not cubicles.
