Tax Intern, Summer 2024
Main Street (www.mainstcapital.com) is a publicly traded investment firm that primarily provides long-term debt and equity capital to lower middle market companies and debt capital to middle market companies. Main Street's portfolio investments are typically made to support management buyouts, recapitalizations, growth financings, refinancings and acquisitions of companies that operate in diverse industry sectors. Main Street seeks to partner with entrepreneurs, business owners and management teams and generally provides "one stop" financing alternatives within its lower middle market portfolio. Main Street's lower middle market companies generally have annual revenues between $10 million and $150 million. Main Street's middle market debt investments are made in businesses that are generally larger in size than its lower middle market portfolio companies.
The tax intern position will be engaged as a member of the tax team within Main Street and will report to the Tax Senior Manager and VP of Tax. The tax intern will work with the tax team to assist with various projects and interact with the accounting and finance group, deal teams, and Main Street’s external tax service provider.
Tax Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist with collection, organization, and tracking of tax forms and tax deliverables from portfolio companies
- Assist with tracking of quarterly tax payments, refunds, and state tax notices, including preparation of responses when needed
- Assist with management of the tax filing calendar and update as necessary
- Assist with preparation of supporting detail and responses to information requests from external service provider for tax returns and quarterly tax provision
- Assist with data collection and reconciliation of new investments and accounts for use in preparation of quarterly tax provisions
- Assist with reorganization of new process for tax distribution templates for the portfolio companies
Requirements for Role:
- Pursuing completion of bachelor’s degree in business; concentration or interest in accounting, finance, or taxation is preferred
- Current/most recent cumulative GPA over 3.00 preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Flexible and adaptable team player, with an eagerness to learn
- Demonstrated ability to meet stringent deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort with data aggregation and manipulation
- Open to part-time internship role if required
