The Health Aide works as part of the medical office team and performs clinical and clerical duties under the general supervision of the licensed nursing personnel and primary care providers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Provides clinical services.
  2. Welcomes patients by greeting them in person.
  3. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; provides examination gowns and drapes; helps patients to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranges examining room instruments, supplies and equipment.
  4. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviews and/or records medical history; take vital signs; and confirms the purpose of the visit or treatment.
  5. Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; and other assigned clinical duties.
  6. Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
  7. Initiates referrals to other sources of health care as necessary.
  8. Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
  9. Prepares and assures patient rooms are stocked and prepared for general exams.
  10. Assists licensed nursing staff in inventory and purchase of medical supplies.
  11. Establishes, utilizes, and maintains a complete office operation that includes the comprehensive filing system of correspondence, patient records, and inventory.
  12. Translates for nurses and primary care providers verbally and in written materials.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties 1 through 12 are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. All other job duties are secondary functions.

  • Ability to efficiently carry out Midtown Health’s Center mission statement and comply with its policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and the public and to be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with all occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to address clinic’s needs.
  • Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills highly desired.
  • Ability to understand and disseminate health information.
  • Knowledge of community health resources for alternate health services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications and data base applications.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanner, calculators, facsimile machines, and telephone systems.
  • Ability to navigate EHR, Nexus, and communicable disease reporting systems.

Education and Experience, Licensure and Certification:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical office or related experience preferred.
  • Must have current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
