Job DescriptionJob Description

A prominent manufacturing company in the Greater Birmingham, Alabama area is seeking a Plant Buyer to join their team. Benefits include: Direct Hire, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, etc.

The primary goal of the Procurement Specialist is to efficiently procure materials and services at the lowest cost while prioritizing considerations such as quality, safety, environmental impact, and reliability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supply Chain Management:

    • Address and resolve supply chain issues with all suppliers for both production and non-production goods and services.

  2. Communication and Coordination:

    • Act as a key contact for all purchasing matters, facilitating communication within the plant and corporate purchasing teams.
    • Acquire quotes from vendors for various teams, including Production, Maintenance, Shipping/Receiving, and Office.

  3. Cost Savings Objectives:

    • Take responsibility for achieving yearly production and non-production material cost savings objectives.

  4. Purchase Order Management:

    • Issue SAP BANFs and purchase orders after necessary approvals.
    • Conduct negotiations with suppliers for the plant.

  5. Logistics and Asset Management:

    • Work closely with Shipping/Receiving on goods receipt discrepancies and Proof of Deliveries (PODs).
    • Assist Finance and Logistics with asset tagging and verifications.

  6. Inbound Deliveries and Coordination:

    • Schedule, organize, and track inbound deliveries while maintaining communication with the requisitioner.

  7. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, environmental, safety, and hazardous waste regulations.

  8. Data Management:

    • Manage required supplier data in AS400, SAP, DOXiS, and other systems.
    • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to assure timely supplier payments and resolve invoicing issues.

  9. Problem Resolution and Support:

    • Investigate and resolve materials or purchasing-related issues with plants and suppliers.
    • Support MP&L team as required.

Requirements:

  • Possess a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the purchasing field.
  • Proficient in SAP and computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
