Job Title : Horse and Horsman Trainer
Location : At the 11th ACR’s Horse Detachment stables at 4315 Man of War Street, Fort Irwin, CA
Job Type : Full-time
Hours of Operation: From Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
- Trains and develops training for horsemen and horses.
- Participates in the program development and continual updating of training materials related to Horse Cavalry training and maneuvers.
- Instructs Troopers in basic, intermediate, and advanced or specialized techniques of horsemanship as well as proper grooming for the horses.
- Train Soldiers on all competition skills to include jumping, mounted pistols, mounted sabers, and drill and ceremony in accordance with all applicable regulations and technical publications pertaining to the US Cavalry.
- Train new, green horses acquired as assets for the Detachment, as well as improving and
- polishing the training of all horses and mules.
- Maintains training and maintenance records on Troopers and horses including proficiency in horse cavalry skills.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Biological and animal science degree (BS) to include equine anatomy and horsemanship training experiences.
- Shall have +15 years of experience and must be versatile in many forms of horsemanship and instruction to include but not limited to reining, western riding, English riding, and versatility.
- Must have experience working with many different breeds including Mustangs, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Appendixes, and Morgans, etc).
- Maintains current knowledge in all applicable regulations, manuals, and technical publications pertaining to the US Cavalry.
- Must be very knowledgeable of history concerning the history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries to include tack for the horses and apparel for the horsemen.
