Seamstress

Job Summary

•Alters, repairs, or fits garments.

General Accountabilities

•Fits garments on customers to determine required alterations.

•Sews garments, using needles and thread or sewing machines.

•Measures parts, such as sleeves or pant legs, and marks or pin-folds alteration lines.

•Takes up or lets down hems to shorten or lengthen garment parts.

•Lets out or takes in seams in suits and other garments to improve fit.

•Removes stitches from garments to be altered, using rippers or razor blades.

•Fits, alters, repairs, and makes made-to-measure clothing, according to customers' specifications and fit.

•Makes garment style changes, such as tapering pant legs.

•Repairs or replaces defective garment parts, such as pockets, zippers, snaps, buttons, and linings.

•Estimate time frame of alteration

•Sewing on nametapes, patches, badge tabs, name tabs and other style patchwork.

•Communicates with customers

•The company reserves the right to add or change duties at any time

 

Job related requirements

• Must work on site

· Must be able to sit for 2 hours at a time

•Must be able to read and comprehend written/verbal orders

•Must be able to communicate efficiently in English

•Must be capable of only taking one meal period per day

•Must be able to work between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday
