JOB SUMMARY:

Full responsibility for all design aspects of various projects including the development of new products, product improvements and cost reductions to address market requirements for automotive related products. The Product Development Engineer must be capable of managing multiple projects independently and simultaneously with minimal supervision. Timely and successful completion of these projects is expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 5+ years engineering experience in developing product from concept to launch in plastics and composites; manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the areas of technical expertise relevant to designing and developing new products.
  • Superior project management skills and ability to manage to defined timelines.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred).
  • Comfortable in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
  • Working knowledge of ERP system and MS Office.
  • Experience in an engineering environment of a consumer products-based organization preferred.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of new product development projects, including:
  • Confer with Marketing/Product Management regarding project definition and feasibility.
  • Define engineering project timelines for all new product development projects and communicate status to Product Management.
  • Create product layouts using detailed drawings, schematics and 3D scans.
  • Prepare production BOM documentation and manufacturing routing instructions.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing of prototype products with research and development and manufacturing resources.
  • Evaluates engineering test results to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Confer with research, testing and other Engineering personnel to prepare design modifications as required.
  • Support purchasing for required tooling and fixturing for manufacturing and sourced components for new items.
  • Be the Engineering liaison to external customers where required by Marketing and Sales.
  • Manage the delivery of projects to an established timeline and cost budget.
  • Create and apply all related documentation in accordance with company engineering policies. Information must be applied with a high degree of accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to learn ERP, CAD/CAE/ CAM systems, design methods, documentation, policies and procedures.
  • Provide updates to Supervisor, cross-functional teams and management pertaining to status of projects, performance to schedule and performance to budget for departmental activities.
  • Participate in Engineering team and cross functional meetings and provide feedback.
  • May participate in product proposal development activities.
  • Initiate and pursue select new technology development and R&D
  • Support manufacturing engineering projects as required.
  • Ability to travel to customers, vendors, training opportunities, industry shows and supplier locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelors in mechanical engineering/related discipline or equivalent industry experience.

Experience:

  • 5+ years engineering experience in developing product from concept to launch; automotive industry experience is preferred.
