Do you have the desire to begin a career in human services but aren’t sure where to start? Northern Rivers has openings for Residential Youth Counselors in our Schenectady location - AND we are offering a $1,000 Sign On Bonus (made in two payments)
In this position, the Residential Youth Counselor is responsible for providing daily therapeutic treatment to the children and youth in our care, and we offer a continuum of residential treatment options that can help any child find success. We combine a specialized therapeutic environment with the right kind of atmosphere that will benefit clients regardless of their challenges and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn and work within the trauma informed framework of the program, including identifying and using coping/safety plans, maintaining consistency, providing regular routine as well as learning controlled self-response to youth interaction.
  • Engage and form positive relationships with our clients.
  • Follow outlined program routines, therapeutic plans of youth, and program rules and protocols as well as complete all mandatory trainings according to program guidelines.
  • Learn and display basic competency in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.
  • Work as part of a team which includes colleague residential counselors, clinicians, supervisors and other administrative and functional support staff.
  • Maintain respectful and appropriate communication with our internal and external partners, including county workers, medical staff and parents for client success.
  • Complete and maintain documentation to meet programmatic and regulatory standards.
  • Transport clients for medical and mental health appointments and other essential needs as necessary.

Your Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma/GED required; Associates degree preferred
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays as needed
  • Experience working with emotionally challenged population a plus

Certification / Licensure

  • NYS driver's license required

    Starting Rate for this role is $17.00/hour with Evening and overnights will make a shift differential
