General Summary

Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting and verifying duties within the accounting function. Serve the membership by being sensitive to all members’ financial needs and create an awareness of all credit union services to current, potential and new members.

Essential Functions

  • Serve the membership with account inquiries, requests, research, maintenance, fees, or notices.
  • Perform duties associated with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and necessary tax functions, in a timely manner and according to internal procedures.
  • Prepare and review financial, auditing, and accounting reports as requested.
  • Balance, record and summarize financial data, records, general ledgers, accounts, bank transactions and various accounting software resources.
  • Review, investigate, and respond to garnishment and levy requests.
  • Reconcile and report discrepancies found in records, perform filing tasks, and necessary record retention according to accepted accounting practices.
  • Card Dispute Processing, which includes working the disputes queue and applying provisional or final credit, when applicable. Follows and maintains established procedures and processes for the department and sends required customer communication. Also, involves third party vendor management activities based on threshold dollar amount and vendor participation for processing. Investigates disputes under established threshold and processes final credit if applicable.
  • Comply with all state, federal regulations, company policies and procedures that are applicable.
  • Within a team atmosphere, obtain knowledge of all daily accounting job functions and duties to ensure cross-training.
  • Maintain members’ confidentiality.
  • Help analyze needs/changes in the accounting area to maintain and improve functions and member needs.
  • Develop an understanding of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws, and operational procedures.

  • Actively support our sales and service culture and demonstrate these skills by communicating to members the benefits and features of all our products and services.
  • Organize, plan and prioritize work within a team atmosphere.
  • Provide backup assistance in member services, teller services and operations as scheduled.
  • Expect and embrace change by being flexible and adaptable.
  • Meet performance objectives and expectations (i.e. sales, quality service and reliability).
  • Complete in-house training based on required classes set up for this position.
  • Assist in any area as directed by management.
  • Must commit to the LFCU Core Values and Service Expectations.

Job Specifications

  • Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for servicing our members and projecting a positive attitude as a representative in relationship to all credit union activities.
  • Knowledge of accounting practices.
  • High school education plus associate’s degree in accounting/business or the equivalent (ex: 2 to 4 years of experience in a financial institution).
  • Organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines along with knowledge of Excel, Wisdom and various computer programs.
