Summary: Develop and deliver improved product performance enabling a variety of industries to become more sustainable, energy efficient, and resilient. Play a key role in optimizing the designs of oxygen and nitrogen generators based on adsorption, membrane, and cryogenic distillation. PCI Gases has a strong reputation and brand delivering robust, reliable oxygen and nitrogen generators that are either mobile or redeployable at point of use. This role will be instrumental in leveraging the significant existing fleet across the globe, leading the development of new offerings, leading the development of new technical platforms, and continuously improving existing commercial offerings. Industries served by PCI Gases range from defense, healthcare, food & water, industrial, and energy. This role provides a great opportunity to make a real difference to the future of our world

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Lead process development and design activities based on cryogenic distillation, adsorption, and membrane separation technologies. This involves conceptualizing process flow diagrams (PFDs), developing detailed piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifying key equipment (including blowers, adsorbents, membranes, valves, heat exchangers), and specifying operating conditions.

2. Analyze existing adsorption, membrane, and cryogenic distillation products to identify opportunities for optimization, such as improving energy efficiency, increasing throughput, or enhancing product quality. Utilize simulation software and engineering principles to optimize process parameters.

3. Ensure that adsorption, membrane, and cryogenic distillation products comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Identify potential hazards and implement safety measures to mitigate risks associated with handling cryogenic fluids and high-pressure gases.

4. Specify, select, and procure equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, distillation columns, adsorption beds, and cryogenic equipment required for all products.

5. Establish quality control procedures to monitor the purity and composition of separated gases. Implement measures to maintain product quality and consistency.

6. Troubleshoot operational issues related to equipment malfunction, process upsets, or product quality deviations. Develop maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the reliable operation of air separation units.

7. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as energy consumption, product yield, and plant uptime to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of air separation processes. Implement corrective actions as needed to improve performance.

8. Maintain accurate records of process parameters, equipment specifications, maintenance activities, and safety incidents. Generate reports to document process performance, compliance, and improvement initiatives.

9. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation, as well as with operations, maintenance, and safety personnel to ensure the successful implementation and operation of all products.

10. Provide training and guidance to operators and technicians involved in operating and maintaining PCI product offerings. Transfer knowledge of best practices and safety procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation.

11. Provide engineering support to Production, Manufacturing, and Customer Service departments as needed.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably chemical engineering and 4+ years experience in a related industry such as air compressors, industrial gas, adsorption, membranes, etc. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred over experience limited to process plant, office, or laboratory.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

 

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel). FEA modeling, Autodesk InventorTM parametric 3-D modeling application, AutoCAD,
