POSITION SUMMARY: The Milling Machinist is responsible for operating milling machines to produce precision metal parts according to specifications. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, setting up and adjusting machines, and monitoring the machining process to ensure high-quality output. The Milling Machinist plays a crucial role in the metals manufacturing process, contributing to the production of components used in various industries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Machine Operation:

  • Set up and operate milling machines to produce metal parts.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine specifications.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools and fixtures for each job.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure product quality and adherence to specifications.

2. Quality Control:

  • Inspect finished products for accuracy, precision, and conformance to specifications.
  • Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to correct deviations.
  • Document and report any non-conformities or issues in the production process.

3. Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines for operating milling machines.
  • Comply with relevant regulations and standards governing the manufacturing process.

4. Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with other team members, including supervisors, engineers, and quality control personnel, to ensure efficient production processes.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to address any issues or concerns related to the machining process.

5. Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.
  • Provide input on tooling and equipment upgrades to enhance productivity.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational or technical training is a plus.

2. Proven experience as a milling machinist in a metals manufacturing environment.

3. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

4. Knowledge of machine tooling, materials, and machining processes.

5. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

7. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

8. Knowledge of safety procedures and a commitment to workplace safety.

9. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.

10. Ability to write and/or edit simple correspondence and work instructions in English.

11. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Physical Requirements:

The role may require standing for extended periods and working in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, and other environmental factors.
